Wrinkles, pigmentation, freckles, acne prone skin or post acne scarring are conditions suitable for skin-resurfacing treatment, either chemically or mechanically.
The endoscopic technique has not yet convincingly made it possible to stretch redundant skin without causing visible scars. The traditional face-lift with a combination of detachment and lifting of the soft tissues of the midface through incisions in the mouth or other combinations is the only alternative for tightening the skin of the face and neck.
The shape and size of the nose lends the individual person his or hers personal features which by no means that is has to be changed. As the nose plays a central role in our appearance, the evaluation has to consider the balance between the different segments of the face and their relation to the nose.
The relationship between the different parts of the face has a fundamental aesthetic importance. Well-marked cheekbones give an aesthetic framing of the eyes, often illuded by a well-made make-up.
Significant prominent ears or other deformities of the ears are normally corrected within the public services in early age. The framework of the ear consists of one single piece of cartilage with a complicated relief covered by skin. There are multifold different deformities of the cartilage giving the ears aberrant look.
A foreheadlift is suitable to raise the eyebrows. Other local operations can of course also achieve this. The surgery can be done either with endoscopic technique or with the traditional brow lift where an incision is done a few centimetres behind the hairline from ear to ear.
A face-lift changes the "coating" of the skin like the tailor changes clothes to fit. Excesses are removed but the quality of the "fabric" stays the same. The predisposing characteristics of the face do not change, which means, a face-lift cannot make someone beautiful unless they were so before. A tired appearance, however, can change to a less tired look.
The eyes and their exposure have a significant importance to a person's beauty and personal charisma. With agening the elasticity and stability of the soft tissues and skin diminishes and the skin appears loose and wrinkled. Some individual properties and personal habits such as smoking and extensive sun exposure can accelerate this agening.
Recently a new filler for permanent tissue augmentation by injection was introduced in Europe, Aquamid® . Treatment with Aquamid® might eventually replace some of the suggested operations.
To have full, pouting lips appears to be one of the characteristics for beauty. The subcutaneous tissues and the muscle loose their elasticity due to hormonal changes making the skin thinner and the upper lip longer. The border between the white and red skin of the lip, vermilion or lip roll is in the younger lip well defined and elevated. This structure diminishes with ageing.
